If there is one thing we like here at Insider Financial, it's a micro cap that is able to maintain a positive news stream. At this end of the market, the ability to pump out press releases updating both investors and prospective trigger pullers as to the state of both the market and the company in question can be a game changer, and one that will often drive speculative volume regardless of a company's underlying fundamentals. Of course, there's a balance to be struck. Put out too many press releases announcing insignificant updates, and markets will switch off to your releases. One company that we feel has been able to achieve this balance is Medical Marijuana Inc (OTCMKTS:MJNA).We've covered this one on a couple of occasions before, but by way of a quick introduction, the company bills itself as operating in the cannabis and industrial hemp space in America. Through its subsidiaries and investment holdings, Medical Marijuana focuses on the development, sale and distribution of hemp oil that contains naturally occurring cannabinoids, including cannabidiol (CBD), among others. We actually looked at Axim Biotechnologies Inc (OTCMKTS:AXIM), one of the company's subsidiaries, late last week. That's the one that is developing the CanChew cannabis product, and just kicked off a study investigating the impact of the drug candidate in an IBS indication. Of course, Medical Marijuana was able to get out a press release detailing the trial initiation, and picked up a bit of strength on the back of it.What about updates relating to the company specifically? In the past few days alone, Medical Marijuana has put out three press releases, each detailing different elements of its operations, and each serving to buoy sentiment in its own right. The first, on January 24, announced that one of the company's subsidiaries, HempMeds Mexico, had received permission from Mexico's health authority COFEPRIS to import its flagship product (called Real Scientific Hemp Oil-X) to treat a patient for their pain associated with cancer treatments and for their general well-being. It's one patient only, so it's not going to have any near term material impact on the company's financials, but as pointed out by management, it's indicative of a macro political change in the nation. Specifically, that Mexico's government and regulatory authorities are starting to recognize some of the potential benefits of cannabis/cannabinoid based therapeutics. With Medical Marijuana already commanding a strong presence in Mexico, this bodes well for market growth potential. The second press release, published on January 25, just a day after the previous release, announced that another one of its subsidiaries, Kannaway, has unveiled a new premium hemp oil product called Kannaway Gold. It's hemp oil in a dispenser, designed as an edible product, and retails at $350 for a 15-gram tube. Finally, Medical Marijuana announced on January 26 that yet another of its subsidiaries, HempMeds Brasil, has recently received global coverage and recognition for the company's strides in the country of Brazil for being the first company to offer legal medicinal cannabis products to Brazil after receiving import approval to those suffering from specific medical conditions. For us, this latter release is the sort of fluff release that we alluded to in the introduction to this piece – the type that (if too many of this type hit press) will start to blind shareholders to any real developments. The other two, however, are genuine updates, and serve to feed positive sentiment surrounding the stock. And that's what's important for us with this one. Any cannabis stock that can give the illusion (for want of a better word) of being a hive of operational activity has an advantage over its peers, in a space that – and here's the important part – investors are desperate to enter.By setting up as it has, and operating through a spate of subs, Medical Marijuana can keep putting out updates without looking repetitive, and in turn, can maintain the market's interest in what's going on behind the scenes. We will be updating our subscribers as soon as we know more.
