We alerted our readers and subscribers on February 29, 2016 that ParkerVision Inc (NASDAQ:PRKR) was a high risk/reward opportunity that was most likely going to turn into a multi-bagger for patient investors. Back then shares were trading around the $2 mark. Yesterday, shares hit $8.18. It was yet another big winner for our subscribers.ParkerVision, Inc. designs, develops and markets its proprietary radio-frequency (RF) technologies, which enable advanced wireless solutions for current and next generation communications networks. Protected by a highly-regarded, worldwide patent portfolio, the company’s solutions for wireless transfer of RF waveforms address the needs of a broad range of wirelessly connected devices for high levels of RF performance coupled with best-in-class power consumption. The move higher was propelled by the news that ParkerVision had entered into a settlement and patent license agreement with Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd. and its affiliates for the perpetual, worldwide license of ParkerVision’s current patent portfolio, subject to certain exclusions. In conjunction with this agreement, ParkerVision will file a motion to terminate Samsung from a pending U.S. International Trade Commission investigation and dismiss its claims against Samsung in two United States District Court cases. The companies agreed not to disclose the specific financial terms of the agreement. This all stems from January of this year when the United States International Trade Commission (ITC) instituted an investigation of the unfair trade practices committed by Apple Inc., LG (LG Electronics, Inc., LG Electronics U.S.A., Inc., and LG Electronics MobileComm U.S.A., Inc.), Samsung (Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd., Samsung Electronics America, Inc., Samsung Telecommunications America, LLC, and Samsung Semiconductor, Inc.), and Qualcomm Incorporated. The unfair trade practices under investigation relate to the importation, sale for importation, and/or the sale after importation of products such the Apple iPhone 6, the Apple iPad Air 2, the Samsung Galaxy S6, and the LG G3, among others. Many of these devices incorporate technology provided by Qualcomm and others that infringe ParkerVision’s patents directed towards radio-frequency technology. The investigation is a result of the complaint filed by ParkerVision in December 2015. ParkerVision had requested that the ITC institute an investigation and that it bar them from continuing to import and sell their infringing products in the United States. ParkerVision has also filed complaints against each of the proposed respondents in the United States District Court for the Middle District of Florida. The accused products include the Apple iPhone 6, the Apple iPad Air 2, the Samsung Galaxy S6, and the LG G3, among others. Many of the accused products include infringing technology manufactured by Qualcomm and incorporated by Apple, Samsung, and LG.Why shares of PRKR climbed so much is that the settlement by Samsung puts pressure on the other players to settle as well. It means that ParkerVision has a strong case and Samsung realized the best course of action was to resolve the issue with ParkerVision. We now expect Apple, LG and Qualcomm to come around and settle as well. This will further drive shares of PRKR even higher.Currently trading with a market cap of $76 million, we expect Apple to be the next one to settle with PRKR. This will most likely happen before summer is over. Once that does happen, look for another jump in PRKR's share price. In the short term, we expect some profit taking as we exited our position yesterday and many others did as well. Shares pulled back $2 to the $6 level as a result. For longer term investors, it's worth noting that Ladenberg Thalman analyst Jon Hickman has been following the company for quite some time and has a price target of $18.50 on the stock.
