Even though the stock price for SolarWindow Technologies, Inc. (OTCMKTS:WNDW) ended the year 2016 at the lower end of its 52-week range, the company, and its innovative technology holds great promise for the future, both for the solar energy industry, and its investors. The company’s quest to develop and commercialize the first-of-their-kind electricity-generating see-through windows made substantial progress in 2016. In October of 2016 SolarWindow Technologies surpassed a major milestone for the production of commercial electricity-generating windows. Its SolarWindow coatings successfully performed under test conditions designed to simulate the high pressure and temperatures of the ‘autoclave’ manufacturing processes used by commercial glass and window producers. This assures its principle customers, that being window manufacturers, that the SolarWindow coating is a viable product. The next step is for window manufactures to begin applying it to their window products. The new year brought forth a new line of product development for SolarWindow Technologies. In mid-January the company announced plans to develop electricity-generating flexible glass. The concept was initiated in 2016 by applying layers of company’s liquid coatings on to Corning Willow Glass. This resulted in a bendable glass ‘veneer’, as thin as a business card, which generates electricity. This application can be applied to windows on existing buildings, turning entire buildings into power generators. It can also be applied to flat and curved surfaces on automobiles, trucks, buses, airplanes, and boats to generate onboard electrical power. Another key element of the flexible glass product is the high-speed roll-to-roll manufacturing process that maximizes output while keeping production costs low. In early February of 2017, SolarWindow Technologies was recognized by the Business Intelligence Group as the winner of the 2017 BIG Innovation Award. The BIG Innovation Awards recognize companies and people who “bring new ideas to life, and change the way we experience the world.” Like many other solar power businesses, SolarWindow Technologies is faced with the dilemma of having to compete with fossil-fuel based energy. While solar power can be used for some energy applications, it cannot be used for all; at least not yet. Meanwhile, petroleum products can be applied to just about anything, are much cheaper, and can be used day or night, albeit the negative consequences associated with the use of fossil fuels (i.e. pollution). While there is no doubt that solar energy is the most abundant and cleanest source of energy available, until the applicable technology exists that can effectively and efficiently harness the energy of the sun, and apply it to all of our energy needs, fossil-fuels will continue the main stream energy source; until such time that they are fully depleted, or the pollution problem becomes unbearable. However, SolarWindow Technologies is leading the way to overcome, at least some of the aforementioned dilemmas. And solar technology is advancing by leaps and bounds.

“SolarWindow™ products are being developed in collaboration with the U.S. Department of Energy’s National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL) under a Cooperative Research and Development Agreement (CRADA). The primary development goal of the CRADA is the commercialization of SolarWindow™ products.”

SolarWindow Technologies’ stock price has been range-bound since the beginning of 2016 from a high of $4.41 on March 1, 2016, to a low of $2.00 on July 18, 2016. There have been several significant moves during 2016, both to the upside and the downside, but price always stabilizes within the range. Seems as though investors are acquiring the stock when price dips to the lower part of the price-range. At present the price is hovering near the middle of range at $3.58.At some point in the not too distant future, alternative sources of energy will become more mainstream as technologies become more applicable, and cost effective. SolarWindow Technologies is well positioned to be at the cutting edge of this transition. Even though it is in the early development stages, and has yet to create a single dollar’s worth of revenue, it was able to raise over $4 million and investment capital in 2016. There are more than a few investors that have a great deal of faith in the future of SolarWindow Technologies. We will be updating our subscribers as soon as we know more.
