Greenland Mines (Nasdaq: GRML) is not a speculative exploration play.The gold, palladium, and platinum at its Skaergaard Project in southeast Greenland have already been confirmed through an independent NI 43-101 Technical Report by SLR Consulting. The deposit is known. The metals are there. What the market hasn't caught up to yet is the sheer scale of what's sitting in the ground.

GRML confirmed just last week that its supply ship Argus had reached and dropped anchor at the Skaergaard gold-palladium-platinum project on Greenland's southeastern coast, capping a trouble-free passage through the Denmark Strait. With the vessel in place, drilling has now begun, marking the official start of full-scale field operations for 2026.

In a setting as remote as the Arctic, moving people and equipment into place is often the harder challenge than the geology itself. Argus dropped anchor near shore, close to the zone earmarked for the season's first holes and bulk sampling. Gear, machinery, supplies and site infrastructure were then transferred from ship to shore by cable line. Every crew and work area completed safety briefings and orientation sessions before any operations began. Nordisk Fundering's diamond drill fleet — including a pair of new helicopter-transportable rigs — has been set up and put into service, with the season's opening holes on track to wrap up within days.

The Fine Print Behind the Announcement

Beyond the headline, groundwork has already progressed. Drone-based LiDAR mapping is finished, and the zones slated for later blasting and bulk sampling have been mapped out. About a third of this season's planned drill sites have been pinpointed and flagged on the ground, with the rest to be located as the program continues. An inspection of the Sodalen airstrip found it in strong condition, offering a reliable route for shuttling personnel and technical specialists via small aircraft over the next two months — and doubling as a key emergency-access resource. Weather on site has stayed clear and mild.

None of this logistics story means anything without what's underground. Skaergaard sits within the Triple Group of the Skaergaard layered mafic intrusion, a geological formation that has served as a reference point in igneous rock studies for nearly a hundred years. The company positions it as among the largest undeveloped deposits globally for palladium, gold and platinum. This past July, the firm released its inaugural S-K 1300-compliant technical summary, put together by SLR Consulting (Canada) Ltd. That report identified an Indicated resource of 153.6 million tonnes at 3.04 grams per tonne palladium equivalent (15.00 million ounces), plus an Inferred resource of 177.5 million tonnes at 3.07 grams per tonne palladium equivalent (17.49 million ounces).

Greenland Mines controls its stake via subsidiary Major Precious Greenland A/S, which holds an 80% interest — along with the right to acquire the remaining 20% — across the three Mineral Exploration Licenses spanning the project and surrounding land. The site's deep-fjord location is precisely what makes shipborne delivery through vessels like Argus a workable solution rather than wishful thinking.

This Year Is About Proof, Not Discovery

The company already knows the deposit is there. The 2026 program's job is to strengthen confidence in it. This season's field work aims to bolster the Mineral Resource estimate, push forward metallurgical and engineering testing via bulk sampling, and collect the environmental, geotechnical and infrastructure data needed to advance Skaergaard toward an Initial Assessment — the S-K 1300 counterpart to a preliminary economic assessment. The company plans to pull a multi-ton bulk sample this season for processing and metallurgical testing, a significant step up in scale from earlier mini-bulk samples.

This is the costly, unglamorous stretch where mining projects either prove themselves out or quietly stall. Investors should keep expectations grounded given the current stage. Assay results from this season's drilling haven't come back yet. Visible mineralization in drill core doesn't necessarily reflect actual grade or metal content. No Initial Assessment exists yet, resources are not the same as reserves, and there's no production decision on the table.

Iceland: The Overlooked Piece of the Puzzle

Skaergaard's location on Greenland's east coast plays into a bigger vision the company calls the North Atlantic Critical Metals Corridor — mining at Skaergaard, paired with possible downstream processing and shipping infrastructure across the water in Iceland. Backing that plan, Greenland Mines holds a First Right of Refusal on the Helguvik industrial site on Iceland's Reykjanes Peninsula — an already-developed location with existing industrial facilities, deep-water harbor access and cheap renewable power, sitting roughly 400 kilometers away by sea.

Whether this corridor ever comes together remains uncertain, and a right of refusal is merely an option, not a guaranteed asset. Still, the strategic thinking lines up with the direction Western industrial policy has been trending. The takeaway from the rare earths saga is that mine ownership counts for little if the processing stage happens elsewhere. A company weighing its downstream strategy before it even has a formal reserve is at least framing the right question early on.

There's More to This One Than Skaergaard Alone

Greenland Mines runs two separate business lines, not just one. Its Mining division includes Skaergaard and — pending completion of a previously disclosed deal — the Sarfartoq neodymium-praseodymium rare earths project in southwestern Greenland. Its Biotech division remains active as well, anchored by Klotho's KLTO-202 program targeting ALS as its lead indication. The company describes its overall approach as a diversified platform touching rare earth magnet materials, precious metals, and selected midstream processing ventures. Anyone evaluating this stock purely as a palladium play is only seeing a slice of the full picture.

Greenland Is a U.S. Strategic Priority

The policy conversation around Greenland has moved well past theory. Greenland sits at the crossroads of North America, Europe, and the Arctic, effectively acting as a gatekeeper to the North Atlantic and emerging Arctic shipping lanes. As polar ice continues to recede, new maritime routes are opening that could reshape global trade, and Greenland is positioned right along those corridors. From a defense standpoint, it anchors the critical Greenland–Iceland–UK (GIUK) gap, a choke point used to monitor naval activity—especially from Russia—making it indispensable for U.S. and NATO security architecture. It also hosts infrastructure key to missile warning and space surveillance, reinforcing homeland defense in an era of increasingly advanced threats.

Beyond military relevance, Greenland represents a long-term economic and technological opportunity tied to the future of energy and supply chains. The island holds significant deposits of rare earth minerals and other critical resources used in everything from semiconductors to electric vehicles and renewable energy systems. As the U.S. looks to reduce dependence on foreign suppliers—particularly China—Greenland could become part of a more secure, Western-aligned resource base. At the same time, its cold climate and geographic isolation make it attractive for next-generation infrastructure like data centers and advanced computing facilities. While extraction and development remain difficult today, the strategic value lies in the optionality: as technology improves and the Arctic becomes more accessible, Greenland’s importance is likely to increase rather than diminish.

The deposit itself has been studied for nearly 90 years — first discovered in 1935, with a major gold-and-palladium discovery following in 1986. Researchers from institutions including Aarhus University, Caltech, and the Geological Survey of Denmark and Greenland have spent decades documenting its structure.

The company is now advancing into the next phase. They've engaged WSP Denmark to conduct environmental baseline work, secured an icebreaker vessel for their 2026 field season, and are working toward a Preliminary Economic Assessment. Separately, they've outlined plans for a drilling program targeting a doubling of the total resource to approximately 50 million contained ounces across gold, palladium, and platinum — with vanadium and gallium potentially added to the mix.

Located in Southeast Greenland, the Skaergaard Project is one of the largest undeveloped gold (Au), palladium (Pd), and platinum (Pt) deposits in the world, with a total in-situ resource value of approximately $68 Billion1 at February 2026 metal prices.

Through a new drilling and development program, Greenland Mines Ltd aims to double its resource to ~50 million contained ounces of Au, Pd, and Pt, as well as adding vanadium and gallium to its raw critical metals portfolio.

The Skaergaard intrusion is recognized as one of the world's largest undeveloped resources of gold‑palladium‑platinum, with additional metals that are increasingly important to energy transition, defense application and high‑technology supply chains.

A company can rarely reinvent itself overnight, but  Greenland Mines (NASDAQ: GRML), has come close. What started the year as a biotech firm has become a two-division mining company in the span of a few months, and its acquisition activity since then shows no sign of slowing.

Previously known as Klotho Neurosciences Inc., the company traded under the ticker KLTO. In March 2026, however, the company announced two significant changes: a name change to Greenland Mines Ltd and a NASDAQ ticker switch to GRML. In addition, the announcement noted a strategic acquisition that shifted the company’s core focus. The filing was announced through an 8-K with the Securities and Exchange Commission, along with an investor webcast explaining the move to shareholders.

That acquisition brought in the Skaergaard project, a palladium, gold and platinum deposit in southeast Greenland now held through the company’s subsidiary Major Precious Greenland A/S. Since March, the company has continued building momentum. Last month, Greenland reported an updated mineral resource estimate under the SEC’s S-K 1300 standard, raising indicated palladium equivalent metal by 31% to 15.0 million ounces and lifting the indicated grade by 36% to 3.04 grams per tonne.

Earlier, in May, the company signed a definitive agreement to acquire the Sarfartoq neodymium-praseodymium rare earths project from Neo Performance Materials for $35 million, split between $20 million in cash and $15 million in company stock. Sarfartoq’s historic resource includes an estimated 27 million kilograms of neodymium oxide and 8 million kilograms of praseodymium oxide, elements used in the permanent magnets that power electric vehicles and wind turbines.

Neo Performance Materials is staying involved rather than exiting. The company is retaining an equity stake in Greenland Mines along with offtake rights covering up to 60% of Sarfartoq’s future production once the acquisition closes, effectively lining up a buyer before the project reaches production. Closing remains subject to approval from the Greenland government under the country’s Mineral Activities Act.

The company added a third leg to its strategy in June 2026 through a share exchange agreement with AnorTech Inc., a company trading on the TSX Venture Exchange. Greenland Mines agreed to acquire a 9.9% equity stake in AnorTech for roughly C$5 million, paid in newly issued Greenland Mines shares, with an option to increase its position to as much as 19.9% during the following six months. The deal gives Greenland Mines exposure to sustainable and high-purity alumina production, adding a processing layer above its upstream mining assets.

Notably, the company has not abandoned its biotech roots. Its cell and gene therapy division continues to advance KLTO-202, targeting amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, along with KLTO-101, aimed at Alzheimer’s disease, and additional therapies for Parkinson’s and other age-related disorders. That keeps Greenland Mines as a company with exposure to both natural resources and biotechnology under one publicly traded structure, an unusual combination for a NASDAQ-listed exploration company.

Taken together, the moves since March 2026 show a company moving quickly to build out a broader platform. A name change and ticker switch brought in a flagship precious metals project, a resource upgrade strengthened that project’s regulatory standing, a rare earths acquisition added a second critical mineral exposure with a committed offtake partner and an equity investment added downstream materials optionality.
