Market Summary

U.S. stocks on Tuesday ended in negative territory, though well off their session lows. Meanwhile, Treasury yields pushed higher as investors awaited the Federal Reserve's rate decision. The central bank's monetary policy committee will end its two-day meeting tomorrow.The spotlight was garnered by Instacart's market debut, following on the heels of Arm Holdings' initial public offering (IPO). The grocery delivery app's shares soared 40%.The Nasdaq declined 0.23% to close at 13,678.19 points. The blue-chip Dow fell 0.31% to settle at 34,518.26 points, while the benchmark S&P 500 retreated 0.21% to finish at 4,444.03 points.Nine of the 11 S&P sectors closed in the red, with Energy and Consumer Discretionary the top losers. Health Care and Communication Services were the two gainers.Treasury yields moved up. The longer-end 10-year yield was up 6 basis points to 4.36%, while the more rate-sensitive 2-year yield was up 4 basis points to 5.10%.On the eve of the Fed's decision, markets are nearly certain that the central bank will hold rates steady. The bigger question is whether policymakers have seen enough economic data to refrain from hikes.
